A travel map video that gives your memories a route

A map helps viewers understand how the moments in a travel video connect. Watch the Album Map adventure demonstration, then use the sample brief below to plan your own route. Choose the guided builder when photos and clips lead the story; choose 3D Map Animator when you want to direct the route and camera in detail.

Sample brief: a three-stop weekend trip

Plan a short story around Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is a fictional planning scenario you can replace with your own destinations. The video above demonstrates the product; it does not depict this itinerary.

What to gather

What you are aiming for

A recap that introduces each destination before showing the memory associated with it.

How to make your version

  1. Choose the stops before the photos

List the locations in the order you want viewers to follow. Use the downloadable worksheet to give each stop a purpose. Three memorable destinations usually make a clearer short recap than every place you passed through.

  2. Match a memory to each place

Select a small number of photos or clips for each destination. Add a short note explaining the moment, then assign the correct location. If companions have better footage, invite them through the project's contribution link.

  3. Build the map story

Start the guided map builder, add your media and locations, and arrange the sequence. Preview the movement between places. For a route-led animation with detailed camera and timing controls, use the separate 3D Map Animator beta.

  4. Watch once as a new viewer

Check that place names are legible, the route makes sense, and photos stay on screen long enough to understand. Remove repeated images, check music levels, and export the version that fits where you will share it.

Small choices that help

  • Use city-level locations for a public recap when you do not want to reveal a home address.
  • Choose landscape media for a wide presentation or plan a portrait version for a phone audience.
  • A recap tells the story of your stops. Check a navigation service separately for driving directions.

Bring your own story into the video
